Courthouse Opening

The Courthouse ( on the street down from Conoles pub) is opening this Friday as a youth space/youth café, intended for teens between 15-19 . Its a cool space with couches and plenty of seating, and its intended to have music, games, coffee/tea, and free wifi.  The Open Mic has donated some of the funds raised at the recent concert to the project, so come along and make it your own.

Another good night

Last night, Sunday we had the Cuckoo Fleadh Open Mic and a large attendance, with some great new performers. Next Open Mic will probably be on the 6th June.

CU-FACTOR Talent Competition

The Credit Unions in County Galway are running a novel CU-FACTOR Talent Competition.

CLOSING DATE THURSDAY 6TH MAY. Late applications will not be accepted.

This contest is a youth initiative organized and sponsored by Credit Unions to provide a platform for young entertainers to show off their individual and group talents.

Credit Unions run their own local competition and the top two acts go forward to the Galway County Final at Town Hall Theatre, Galway on Sunday 30th May 2010. The county final winner will receive €1000.

Entry forms available in the Credit Union Kinvara (across the road from Londis). Maeve will bring some to the Open Mic on Sunday.

Auditions take place in Johnstons Hall on Friday 14th MAY.

Auditions are being organized by other Credit Unions over the next week. These include Cashel (8th May), Glenamaddy (8th May), Tuam (8th May), Kinvara and Menlough/Skehana.
Cómhar Creidmheasa Cholmcille Teo, Indreabhán are holding their final on 30th April.

Each act is allowed a maximum of 6 minutes.

Two acts will be selected  to go forward to the Final at the Town Hall Theatre Galway on Sunday 30th May 2010 at 7pm.

Great Concert!

The concert on Saturday 24th April was a great success, with some great music and performances, and a very appreciative audience. Thanks to all who contributed towards a very enjoyable night (and thanks to those who came along for the clean-up next day!) CONCERT!

Poster Competition

Open Mic are running a poster competition for a new poster; prize – €50 !. Closing date is 31st March.  Format up to A3.

Open Mic Concert

The Open Mic Concert takes place in Johnstons Hall on the 24th April; if you want to take part, email or text or call, with your name. and we’ll add you to the list. We will have a rehearsal at the Open Mic, 7th March.

Piano Tuned

The “house” piano  has now been tuned, and is in concert pitch, so all budding Rachmaninovs and Scott Joplins and Fats Wallers  have no excuse. We’ve also wired up our projector to the ceiling, so if you’ve any photos relevant to the Open Mic, email them or bring them in on disc or memory stick.
